Environment and energy
Why are our environment and our energy requirements so important to us that we are taking a close look at them? Because there is no alternative!
As a family business that has been rooted in the region for three generations, we are aware of our social responsibility. We therefore operate an environmental management system to keep our impact on the environment as low as possible. In addition to the environment, the topic of energy and energy efficiency is of course also firmly anchored in our DNA. We want to do our part to minimize CO2 emissions and have therefore been operating an energy management system in addition to environmental management for around a decade, as part of which we track continuous improvements in energy efficiency and the CO2 footprint.
What does that mean in concrete terms?
We never tire of looking for and finding ways to optimize, have set ourselves specific targets for self-sufficiency in energy and want to significantly reduce our requirements despite our growth.
We have been able to reduce the amount of energy required per kilogram of material processed by 20% since 2019.
We have consistently expanded our own generation: With our 950kWp photovoltaic systems on our roof, we generate a considerable amount of the energy we need ourselves. The systems are as large as 80 private systems*. This protects the grids and the climate!
In addition, we have built a hydrogen-capable combined heat and power plant with an output of 1,200 kW, despite all the regulations, which supplies us with energy (base load capable) and whose waste heat we sell to the local district heating supplier. The output corresponds to approx. 100 heat pumps **.
